Terrific Town Sports by Holly Cubbon
In June, the Westholme Athletics Team set off for the annual town sports armed with suncream, spikes and a huge dose of enthusiasm. Pupils from Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 all piled onto the bus with butterflies twirling and twisting in our stomachs. Luckily, it was only a short ride and we were at Witton, ready to compete!
When we got there, the butterflies multiplied as we saw the whole bank, next to the track, swarming with pupils from other schools. We found a place to sit and before the first race was ready to start. It was hurdles. The team did really well and the Year 7 Westholme hurdler came first. Then, it was my turn… I was the 100m sprinter! I normally prefer longer distances, but I still did well in my heat coming second. Aisha did well in the sprint too; she reached the final and won it!
There was a bit of a break; then, came the 1500m. This is my race! I came first and then treated myself with an ice cream. It was a brilliant day and the sunshine made it even better!
